Public Act 139 of 1947, Section 51.301 requires all Sheriffs to be responsible for the recovery of all drowned bodies in waters situated within their respective county.  The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Dive Team is a 10 member multi-agency team that is responsible for recovery of drowning victims as well as the search for, and recovery of evidence, from the waters of Newaygo County.

The Dive Team trains throughout the year and routinely dives in adverse conditions.  The members of the team have been trained in several specialties including Ice Diving Operations, Swift Current Diving, Night-time Diving, Zero Visibility Diving and Underwater Crime Scene Investigation, in addition to their Basic Open Water Certification.

Sgt. CJ Freriks oversees the Dive Team, and is available at 231-689-7303 or by email for questions or comments regarding the Dive Team.
