The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau consists of three Detective Sergeants and one Detective Deputy.  Two Detective Sergeants are assigned as general case investigators, one Detective Sergeant is assigned to the Computers Crime Division through the Michigan State Police, and the Detective Deputy is assigned to the Central Michigan Enforcement Team.

Detectives investigate a variety of major cases including homicides, criminal sexual assaults, suicides, arsons, auto thefts and breaking and entering.

Each detective has received specialized training pertaining to investigations and their specialized function. Some of the types of training the detectives have received are:

The Detective Bureau maintains a close working relationship with the County Prosecutor’s Office in an effort to successfully prosecute the multiple cases which are handled. The Sheriffs Office continues to work closes with the Prevention on Child Abuse, and Center for Hope and Healing Child Advocacy Center.  The center deals with physical abuse and sexual assault cases involving children.  

The detective bureau also has good working relationships with surrounding police departments so that information may be shared, as needed.

Detectives continue to attend yearly training seminars to keep up with the everyday changes in investigative techniques.
