Enhance Fitness 

BECOMING FIT JUST BECAME MORE FUN!

EnhanceFitness® makes becoming fit more fun! EnhanceFitness® is a group fitness class designed specifically for older adults that includes four classes in one to include strength, flexibility and balance. EnhanceFitness® is a one hour class lead by instructors who encourage and create a welcoming atmosphere. 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? 

EnhanceFitness® classes are specifically designed for adults age 60+ regardless of ability or fitness level. Exercises are modified so they can be completed either sitting or standing.

EnhanceFitness will help you: 

  • Improve endurance, balance, strength, and flexibility.
  • Be more active.
  • Help to prevent falls.

Anyone who wants to improve their endurance, balance, strength, and flexibility is encouraged to attend. Those with chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or arthritis will find many benefits from attending an EnhanceFitness® class, as well as those who want to relieve feelings of depression and anxiety. Best of all, the class is for those who want a casual environment that encourages participants to have fun while they exercise!

Cardio Drumming

Cardio Drumming is a fun, full body workout that combines drumming with cardiovascular exercise. It’s a low-impact activity that can be suitable for older adults of many fitness levels.

Newaygo County Senior Produce Program 

The Senior Produce Program is a local program available for all Newaygo County residents over 60 who meet the eligibility requirements. With the support of the Fremont Area Community Foundation, up to $50 worth of coupons will be given to use at participating farmers markets. Coupons can be used to purchase any Michigan-grown, non-processed product, including honey. The coupon works like cash as payment.

To qualify, a senior adult must be:

  • Be 60 years of age or older at the time of receiving coupons OR aged 55 and older and a member of a Michigan federally recognized tribe or urban tribal group.
  • A Newaygo County Resident.
  • Have a total household income less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for 2025.

The program runs from May 1 to October 31 each year.

All coupons for the 2025 season have been distributed. Thank you to all who participated! If you would like to get coupons next year, please mark your calendar for May of 2026 for distribution dates.

Senior Project Fresh

The Senior Project Fresh program has transitioned from paper coupons and applications to an electronic system with the vendor, Healthy Together.

The program provides participants free nutrition education and $25 in benefits that can be exchanged for fresh fruits, vegetables, and honey sold at local farmers’ markets and roadside stands. The program runs from May 1 to October 31 each year.

Eligibility criteria for older adults

  • Residents who are aged 60 or older with a total household income of $28,952.50 or less for an individual, or $39,127.50 for a couple, are eligible to apply for the program. 
  • Every eligible household member may apply. Income eligibility is determined by yearly gross household income. Household is defined as “a group of related or nonrelated individuals who are living together as one economic unit”.  An economic unit is a group of people who share an address and pool their income and expenses to meet their needs.
  • Residents who are aged 55 or older who belong to a Michigan federally recognized tribe or urban tribal group are also eligible.
  • Benefits must be obtained in the county in which the applicant lives.

  1. Register using your mobile phone number or email address.
  2. Enter the one-time 6-digit code received via text or email.
  3. Choose Michigan from the dropdown menu and enter your first and last name.
  4. On the next screen, under “Available Programs” select either: Senior Project Fresh (SPF) Older Adult

If funds are available in your County, you will receive your card with $25 on it in the mail.
