Adult Conservatorship
A conservatorship for an adult may be needed when a person is unable to manage their finances or property because of age, illness, disability, or another condition, and their assets or financial well-being need protection. An adult may request a conservator for themselves, or any person interested in the individual’s estate, affairs, or welfare may file a petition. The petition is filed in the probate court where the individual lives or, if they live outside Michigan, where their property is located. Notice must generally be given to the individual, close family members, the nominated conservator, any known attorney-in-fact, and any government agency providing benefits. Other people or agencies may also need to receive notice if required by law or court rule. MCL – Section 700.5401
